►101 Defensive Basketball Drills (book review)

The name of the Spanish version is "101 Ejercicios defensivos de baloncesto". The book is written by George Karl among others that trained during several years to Seattle Supersonics, for example. The translation looks great in my opinion, and without errors, which please me. The price is low (12 euros) although the book is thin, it has to be told.

For me what is interesting about this book is that explains the defensive helps and interchanges of players that a team can do, above all for intercept the blocks that executes an offensive team. It is important that tall players do not stay matche by small players on the low post. It has to be avoided for example that a center stay matched by a guard.

Another good point of the book is that it is divided in chapters which include several drills joined but a same topic, like for example "Feet work." Each drill occupies a page, what facilitates the assimilation. On that sense it is straightfoward. But if you want to teach the drills to your players (in case you are a coach) is not so easy because you need an advanced knowledge in order to explain the feet work an position of bodies.

Another disadvantage is that some of the drills are executed without a ball. Moreover are defensive and not offensive moves which is more boring if you are not a motivated professional player.

On my page of facebook Green Hot Larry Bird you can see some pick and roll moves executed by Larry Bird, Kavin McHale, Robert Parrish and Danny Ainge coached by Auerbach.
